Koramor Homebrew Campaign
Merilwen is the daughter of Elayna Songsteel, the owner of the Dancing Blade Inn, found in the coastal town of Endelee in the nearest country to the West of Koramor. She has two older siblings, both human, named Dedrick and Rosemary. Her father was an elf of unknown name—a traveler who seduced the widowed Mrs. Songsteel 23 years ago.
Growing up with her human family in a town consisting primarily of humans, Merilwen grew up being accutely aware of the fact that she was different. She would never call what she experienced loneliness—she had no trouble socializing and never doubted the love of her family—but she would often wish that Endelee had a larger elf population. Instead, she had to satisfy her curioisty about her heritage by talking to the elven travellers who stayed at the inn.
Merilwen has always been a social butterfly and conversed at every opportunity with as many of the inn’s occupants as she could manage. She would often ask her conversational partners to tell her a story, either something personal or cultural. Her first taste of performance was storytelling. The rush she got from standing at the front of a room or the center of a circle with the eyes and ears of strangers affixed on the tale she was telling was unlike anything she had ever experienced. It was greater even than playing the pan flute, a skill which she had been taught by her sister Rosemary.
When Merilwen was about 16, a woman named Alydiana Arroway moved to Endelee. She was settling down after living a life as a travelling bard. From her, Merilwen discovered that she had a natural talent for music. Alydiana taught her how to dance, play the lute and drums, and add a more performative element to playing instruments. At this point, dancing and playing the pan flute became skills that could serve the same purpose as storytelling, but a bit more fun.
At 20, Merilwen decided that she wanted to see more of what the world had to offer. Moreover, she wanted to be a creator. She wanted to make music and stories of her own instead of being merely a sponge for the creative endeavors of others. It was around this time that a musical group named Skulls and Shadows passed through Endelee, allowing her to join them. She travelled with them for about a year and a half before deciding she wanted to go her own way. She’s been in Koramor for about 6 months.
